Description
Seiko is going strong with the real GMT watches for non-GMT-prices. This SSK023 has nice raised indexes (“applique”) that are not lumed, the lume is in the minutes ring on the outside dial ring). It has a GMT-hand that looks a lot like the Seiko signature seconds hand of the MarineMaster. The watch case is brushed steel, only the edge of the bezel is polished. The 24-hour markers are engraved and filled black in the fixed bezel. The 24-hour markers are also in the dial, very small font. A bit too much maybe, my guess is that it is because of it is a field watch. The hands are brushed, very nice looking on the matt black dial. The glass is single domed hardlex, looks very good. (I am waiting to make sapphire, first I need to know if this case will be used more by Seiko).
The bracelet is something else! Solid links, solid end-pieces and really comfortable! It is more or less like the old Engineer-bracelet that was so popular years ago. The clasp has 4 adjustment holes. The bracelet and clasp are brushed, not only on the top, but also on the sides. Very cool indeed!
The power comes from the 4R34 movement, which is unlike the 4R37 a real GMT. To make the GMT function possible, the day mechanism has been altered. Nice side effect is the disappearance of the day-disc, and a much nicer dial with only a date window in it.
The lugs have been drilled, so changing the bracelet is easy.
This watch is delivered in a special Seiko Sports watch box. |
