Description

This New Samurai is from the “Save the Ocean“-series (part of the revenues go to Ocean Learning Center from Fabien Cousteau, grand son of Jacques Cousteau, I am surprised how little attention is brought to this).

The dial. It goes from the dark of the deep sea to the blue of the shallows diving waters. It has waves, not straight lines, representing the skin folds of the blue whale. the matt black bezel with that beautiful bezel insert. The black crown. I do not know another brand that makes dials like this for such low prices.

The new Turtle is larger than the SKX-diver family, lug to lug it is 2 mm longer.

It is smaller than a Sumo (SBDC031/033), lug to lug it is 3 mm smaller, the width is also 1mm less.

The watch comes in a special “Save the ocean” box, standard it has a rubber strap installed. If you want a steel bracelet instead, choose “no bracelet / install ordered bracelet”. In the shopping cart the selection of steel bracelets is presented and one can be added. I will install the steel bracelet. If you want the rubber strap AND a steel bracelet, you can order the the watch with steel bracelet and order the rubber strap or order the SRPC91 with rubber strap and order a steel bracelet separately.

The lugs are drilled through, so removing the push pins is easy and swapping the bracelet for a strap is a piece of cake.

  • Alignment of the dial ring: this is a well known issue with the new Turtles. The dial ring is a loose part, it lies on an edge in the case, and there is a “nipple” that keeps it in place. But the nipple is smaller than the hole it goes into, so the dial ring can move a bit. This issue appears equally in the K and the J version.
I do not sell those! I keep them aside and correct the aligment when I install sapphire.
  • The bezel is a part with a function (how long you are submerged). Being exactly at 12 is not its function, and Seiko does not care. The way the watch is made, a complete bezel is pressed on the case) almost prohibits the markings to be at 12: there are too many variables: click ring, indentations on the bottom of the bezel, how the bezel insert is placed in the bezel). If you want a perfectly aligned bezel, the insert must be placed after assembly of the watch, and that will result in a much more expensive watch. I can do that, if you ask for it, but will charge 25 euro for it. I have to remove the bezel, take out the insert, press back the bezel and re-install the insert.
