The kinetic movement is a revolutionary concept that Seiko created in the 80’s. It consists of a weight (the rotor) which rotates with the movement of your wrist. That movement is transformed into energy which is stored in a rechargeble battery. The capacity varies, from a few weeks up to years (the Premiers that “go to sleep”).

Seiko used to sell a induction-based charger, where you could put your kinetic watch on to charge. As far as I know, it is not sold any more. Some creative people have made one using a tooth brush charger. The coil that matters for charging is opposite of the crown, so if you want to make something like it, position your watch in a way that that side is on top of the tooth brush charger.

The rechargeble battery has to be changed, not as much as a regular battery, but still. The frequency of changing depends a bit on the watch, your way of using the watch and the battery itself, 8 years is the average life span of such a battery.
