Description

The first 300 meter diver from Seiko, with mono-case, was the 6159-7000. This can be called the father of all MarineMasters (current MarineMasters are basically still the same). The 6159-7000 has always been my Icon-watch and its dial is what my dials are based on. The hands of this old diver were very functional, straight and heavy on the lume. With end points matching the chevron shape. Last year (2018) Seiko issued a limited edition homage to the 6159-7000, the SLA025. When I caught one, I saw the quality of those hands and I decided to make them available too. The large beveled edges of the hour hand were the tricky part, but I must say they turned out fine. (The black ones have been painted matt black, so there the bevel will not show).

The original SLA025 hands are impossible to get, and 6159-7000 hands are usually in poor condition. My alternatives have excellent light emmitence, and can be used in a Seiko watch without being ashamed. I do not use the so called Super Luminova, I buy the most expensive lume powder (X1) from RC Tritec in Switzerland and that shows. I did not only make polished gold versions, I also made them in polished steel and matt black, so they can be combined with a lot of dials. They light up green in the dark.

The hands can be used on Seiko automatic movements,: 7S25-7S26-7S36-4R15-4R3x-6R15-8L35. And off course the automatic movements from Seiko Instruments Inc.: NH35, NE15.

Nerds only: length of the hands, measured from the middle of the axis

  • hour hand: 0,85cm (1.5mm axis)
  • minutes hand: 1,20cm (0,9mm axis)
  • seconds hand: 1,20cm (0,2mm axis)
